A friend put me on to Rotten Mango a couple of years ago. This is a true crime podcast with each episode focusing on a different story, a different crime. She covers crime from all over the world, with this current season focusing on Korean crimes. I find the host Stephanie Soo to be really relatable and down to earth. She's witty and funny but also does a full deep dive for each of the episodes. Her now husband is also on the podcast and at first, I found him a bit... boring. I'm sorry Rui! But he's definitely grown on the podcast and I love his commentary.
What I like about this podcast is Stephanie's storytelling. She starts each episode off by listing the notes and references. A lot of her references are books about the crime she's covering. And she reads them! How she finds the time, I do not know but we love a book girly. She explains each episode as a story but not in such a way that it takes away from the crime and victims. The episodes are usually around an hour or more so you really feel like you are getting complete coverage of the crime.
I love hearing about crimes from other countries, how the government handles them, and the charges for the perpetrator. I think this podcast is a good start to true crime and many of the stories she covers are solved, so she's not exclusively doing unsolved cases. Have you listened before? Have you listened to the one about the college hazing? What say You?
